After trying different lenses (Zeiss 50mm F2 Planar ZM, Leica 50mm Summicron-M, Leica 75mm F1.4 Summilux-M, Leica 90mm F2 APO Summiliux-M and Leica Tri-Elmar 28-35-50mm) I have decided the 50mm Summilux ASPH is the best match for my needs. The Leica M8 and 50mm Lux had a solid work out in Mexico, click here for more.

If I should choose one and one only lens, I'd probably choose a fast 35-40, max 50mm on 24x36, as I've done in the past. Have you ever tried the tiny 40mm f2? The one that went with the leica CL? Probably not as correct as the 50/1.4 ASPH, but I'd choose that one for a super compact travel combo.

I've researched the 40mm but never bought one. Once I get the 1Ds3 and ZD settled, I might revisit the M8 and add a couple cheaper primes. If Leica introduces a full-frame M9, then I will probably upgrade and add a couple lenses. Maybe Leica will have some nice surprises from Photokina 2010 - which seems like a long, long time from now

As part of the photo gallery update, the Leica 50mm Summilux-M ASPH has its gallery now. Go to:
http://www.pebbleplace.com/Personal/Pictures.html --> "SAMPLE PICTURES BY LENS & CAMERA" --> "LEICA 50MM F1.4 Summilux-M ASPH"
The M8 has seen some off and on shooting during the past month or two; mainly some shots of Toronto via the plane window (very busy business trip unfortunately) -

And a house burning down in our neighborhood earlier this week -
