tomorrow thursday october 30 i will see 5d mark II for the first time. i have four dslrexchange-adaptors mounted on these AE-lenses: 18/4, 35/2.8 pc, 50/1.4, 85/1.4.
are there already experiences with 5d mark II around regarding the mirror-problem on 5d? my other zeiss(cy)-all AE: 28/2.8, 35/2.8, 45/2.8, 50/1.7, 85/2.8, 135/2.8 which i will be tested later since its raining. i can only make a quick test. pls help me with camera-settings. i have zero eos-knowledge. these adaptors are not chipped. maybe i can get a seperate chip from korea. btw: i already mounted 18 and 35 pc on 450d. wow-fantastic, above all the shift-lens-for quick panoramas.

I'm looking forward to seeing some sample images too Smile I have had several emails already with people asking if XYZ lens will clear the 5D Mark II's mirror. I only wish Canon was kind enough to loan me 5DII for testing!!! LOL

I have a 1Ds Mark III and plan on selling it for a 5D Mark II because I want the smaller camera body. The 1Ds Mark III has not impressed with its sharpness, but the colors are quite nice. I've referred to the color factor as "vibrance" and wrote about it in a couple of entries starting here - 1Ds3 Blog. If the 5DII has the same twinkle in its upper highlights, I'll be very happy.

The M8 (review here) and Mamiya ZD (ongoing review here) haven't shown this same vibrance. I don't feel like my 1Ds2 files had the same punch either. The 1Ds Mark III is very fun to shoot with; it's quite fast and responsive. The shutter is dampened extremely well and the viewfinder is the best I've seen in a 35mm dSLR or SLR. The 1Ds Mark III has its highlights, but $2699, the Canon 5D Mark II looks like a tremendous value.

I'll probably buy the 5D2 in 2-3 months. I want to make sure there aren't any hardware or firmware issues first.

The mirror problem still happened on 5D Mk II for C/Y 15/3.5, but have no problem with 28/2 and 35-135/3.3-4.5. Though inconvenient, the problem can be overcome by using the "Live View" feature of the camera, which locked the mirror up first before I do the focusing. Throug the "Live View" feature, I can get the focusing more precise using its "Image Enlargement" function.

Welcome to the forums. That's good to know about the 15mm F3.5. It's probably too early to say for sure, but your experience suggests the Canon 5D Mark II will probably have the same mirror / clearance limitations as the original Canon 5D.

On the bright side, hopefully the new Zeiss ZE lenses will offer some photographers a modern solution to the problem. I suspect we will several new ZE lenses announced at the coming 2009 PMA.

Hallo to the Forum,

seems an old post but I would like to know if the 15mm 3.5 on the 5d II can be modified (lens not camera) to make it work without having to use the live view option.
I rather chop a part of the lens than forgetting the live mode workaround and risk damaging my 5d II...
