We received the following update this weekend:

Here’s some info for your Leica database. I have an E60 100/2.8 APO macro elmarit-r with cams 2, 3 and ROM working on my unmodified 5D. Lens serial number is 3740xxx; so either the database starting serial number is incorrect or this lens has been ROM’ed after manufacture.

The lens has front-focusing design (front elements move during focusing) so if focusing at any distance clears the mirror than the lens should work for any distance as the rear elements do not move. I’m told that this is also the case for the non-ROM version.

I'm not quite sure which should be updated, so I marked the ROM version "Y" in the Leica datatable - http://www.pebbleplace.com/Personal/Leica_db.html. As far as I know the 100mm APO has not been a problem on the Canon 5D, so this is probably a safe guess.
