Hi I just purchased an early version of a Summilux 50mm R (according to serials is the 70´s version) for my EOS 5D (mark1), fits and works just fine. There is no mirror issues, but may be i recommend to save and get the summicron f/2 its almost the same picture quality i think. What i like about this lens is boke and the softness for light and shadows transitions, it is sharp and well focused reproduce little details from your subject, i mean even when you crop about 70% and using f1.4 for aperture.

Slightly off topic here, but just in case anybody stumbles across this thread wonder about the Leica 50mm F1.4 Summilux-R E60, I am using it successfully on the Canon 1Ds Mark III without any issues. Here is a picture of it on the Canon 1Ds Mark III -

I am using the Leitax Leica-R / Canon EOS adapter with the Dandelion ROM chip installed (by Leitax). Here is a picture of the lens with the adapter attached -

There are more pictures of the adapter on the Leica adapters section (click here). I'll be uploading a Leitax review in the next couple days (time permitting). Thus far I'm very pleased with the adapter.
