Leica 19mm F2.8 Elmarit RROM, Model Number 11329
GENERAL INFORMATION - Reported June 6, 2008The Leica 19mm F2.8 Elmarit-R already shows "M" in the database - meaning the rear section needs to be shaved at angle in order for the Canon mirror to clear. This is a major modification to the lens. Today we received some feedback which may be helpful for those who are thinking about making the modification:
Quote:... regarding the newest version of the 2,8/19mm one needs obviously to remove roundabout 2-3mm of the metal. That´s a lot...
Again, nothing new here, just sharing some feedback. Dirk's comment does underscore the magnitude of the modification. This is not something I would be willing to do, and I certainly would NOT spend $4000 (US) on a new 19mm and then walk over to the grinding bench! My $.02 - buy one where somebody has already done the modification. Used 19mm (2nd version) sell for ~$1800 USD.

Hopefully Leica will announce a Leica R10 digital SLR at Photokina 2008 - then Leica owners won't have to resort to such extremes.
