Leica 21-35mm F3.5-F4 ASPH Vario-Elmar-RROM, Model Number 11274
POSSIBLE INCOMPATIBILITY WITH CANON 5D - Reported June 6, 2008Today I received the following email -
Quote:... As a 21-35 asph Owner I made the experience that just removing the plastic shroud of the zoom did nevertheless generate Problems with the Canon 5D. The mirror was still blocked from 21mm just to the roundabout 22 oder 23 mm position! My estimation is, that there has to be removed also about 0.2 or 0.3 mm of the metal resting at the backside to guarantee proper function at 21-23 mm. Maybe, this is just a problem of certain samples of the 5D. The mine is one I bought not even one month ago.
This is the first comment we have received regarding the Canon 5D ---NOT--- working with the 21-35mm. Previously the database showed "S" (remove shroud); I have updated the database to shot "I" (means "iffy"). So, the shroud still has to be removed, but this is no guarantee with the 5D.

I have used the Leica 21-35mm successfully with the Canon 1Ds. The lens was sold to a 1Ds Mark II owner and it worked fine with his 1Ds Mark II also. The database still shows "S" for the Canon 1Ds family (ie - the "FF" column).
