CONTAX 60mm F2.8 S-MAKRO-PLANAR (1:1)
Adapter and fit feedback
www.pebbleplace.com/Personal/Contax_db.html

This thread is for ongoing discussions and experiences regarding the 35mm F2.8 Distagon on the Canon dSLRs such as the 40D, 1D Mark III, 1Ds Mark III, Digital Rebels and all other Canon dSLRs. If adding an entry about a lens & adapter, please include:

1) Whether the lens is a AE or MM
2) Whether the lens is made in Germany or Japan
3) Which adapter you are using
4) If the lens works properly at its minimum focus distance and at infinity

NOTE - THIS THREAD IS FOR THE F2.8 "S" VERSION - NOT THE "C" (Compact 1:2) VERSION.

CANON 5D FEEBACK WITH A CAMERAQUEST ADAPTER
SUCCESS!!!

This past week "I. Asha" submitted the following feedback regarding the Contax 60mm F2.8 S-Makro-Planar AE (I did clean up the format) -

Quote:

The following contax lenses worked on my Canon 5D using the CameraQuest adapter:

AE MOUNT

• Contax 25mm F2.8 AE
• Contax 28mm F2.8 AE
• Contax 35mm F2.8 AE
Contax 60mm F2.8 AE

MM MOUNT

• Contax 50mm F1.4 MM
• Contax 85mm F2.8 MM
• Contax 28-85mm MM
• Contax 35-135mm MM
• Contax 80-200mm F4 MM

Surprisingly, the Contax 100mm F3.5mm MM would not work. Additionally, a Yashica ML 21mm F3.5 worked fine.

No changes to the database since the lens was already marked "Y". Click here see the Contax C/Y Canon Table.

Hello,

I have a contax makro planar 60 1:1 made in west germany, with a canon 40D and an adapter from fotohuppert, and i got a problem of fuzziness only when i close the diaphragm (aperture) over 8, meaning betwenn 2,8 and 8 it's perfect and then all over 8 to 22 it became a little blurred but in an homogeneous way all over the image.

Did anybody get the same problem, and if someone get the same combination of this makro with a 40d can he or she tell me witch adapter he or she used so i can try it.

PS : i tested the makro with a contax argentic (film) camera and it work fine there all over from 2,8 to 22.

If anyone has an explanation ...... Praying

Thanks a lot,
Garcia Barthelemy

The 60mm 2.8 s will hit the mirror on the 5DMII when at infinity with a cheap eos adapter.

I will mic the adapter, can others do as well? I might try a trash bag shim to see if that helps.

Hi!
I have a Contax macro planar 60mm S, made in Germany, which I use with Canon 40D and 5D. With 40D I have noticed no problems, but with 5D the mirrow hits the lens.
First I took a little part from the mirrow with a diamondfile. It helped but not enough. Finally I took a little risk and took off a very liittle part from the back part of the lens above the backlens.
Now the lens works well also with 5D with af-confirmed adapter, and I am really pleased with the results.
Definitely a keeper lens! Hard to find a more sharp macro lens.

I suspect the 60mm Makro design is very close to the new Zeiss 50mm F2 Makro-Planar ZF lens - also quite sharp at all apertures.

Was there a "fin" on the rear of the 60mm that interfered with the mirror?

No, there were no "fin" that interfered the mirrow, but the metal part above the back lens.
I decided to take off a little from the metal and it helped.
Another obtion would be to use a thicker adapter but I suppose in that case the lens would not focus in the infinity as well as it does now.

I using MP60/AEG with Kindal Mount to my 5D2, the body mirror only going up can not going down when the focus place at infinity. For another focus is not happen this problem.
