Have a Canon 5dII with Adapter EOS-Leica Happypagehk Leica 4.0/35-70 fits - but cannot be focused to inifinity it stops at about 4-5 m
No idea why - because the same combo above works very well with APO Makro 2,8/100 and 6,8/400 up to infinity.
Any hint for reason very much appreciated

Update Today checked another example of the 4/35-70 with no issues at all. So my first one (bought from eBay) obviously has an individual problem -
To sum up: NO general issue with the 4/35-70

Hi Albert - I've used the older Leica 35-70mm R F3.5 (Made in Germany) and it worked fine a Canon 1Ds Mark II after experimenting with some different adapters. I had issues with the cheap "Made in China" adapters from Ebay. The adapters sold by CameraQuest tended to work better, but they are expensive - and even then, the lens "just" reached infinity. Your first may lens may have been out of adjustment, but maybe not - it could have been within spec / tolerance. Hard to say. Dealing with adapters and such can be frustrating at times, so I'm glad to see things work out.
You may want to check into the Leitax Leica-R / EOS conversions. I have not used them, but from what I've seen on the web, they look more solid than the typical adapter solution. For lenses where infinity focus is questionable, Leitax might be a more reliable solution. I (PebblePlace.com) have no financial relationship with Leitax, just offering them as an alternative if any problems persist.

May be this is irrelevant for the lens I quote is 35-70 R 2.8. I have used the Chineses made, Novoflex and Leitax adapter. They all work fine with my 5D Mk II. And all made the lens "just" reached infinity. Despite the workmanship of the Chinese adapter is not bad, but Novoflex and Leitax are all superior. As letax is mounted onto the lens by screws, it gives me a more secure feeling.

The 35-70 F2.8 - that's a rare lens for sure!

Despit it is very expensive. heavy and large in size, it is well balance when used. I love it very much and this is my first Leica lens. Regarding picture quality, it outperforms all the lens I own. CY 15/3.5, 28/2, 35/1.4, 100/2, 100/2.8, 180/2.8, 28-80/3.4, 35-70/3.4, 35-135/3.5, 180/2.8, 100/300/4.5, an N17-35/2.8, may be I have yet to draw the best out from them.

I use 3 Leica R lenses on 5D, R100/2.8AM, R180/2.8APO, R280/4APO. Based on the comments on this website, firstly I bought 2 Happypagehk AF-confirm adapters - one for 100/2.8 and one for 180/2.8. 100/2.8 cannot focus infinity (did not get the red light and sound from the body) and 180/2.8 focus infinity very slightly over the infinity mark. So I thought it was due to the adapters and asked the vender to send me a thinner one for 100/2.8 (I thought 180/2.8 was ok as 180/2.8 could pass over infinity as buffer for changes due to temperature, etc). Vendor did so very promptly (free of charge even I fed back to him a few months after my purchase). He sent me the most updated one - Optix v5 one and I tested again this adapter with 100/2.8 - this one gave the AF-confirm at infinity mark. However, later I found out that it was the Canon body which consistently back-focus (same with Canon AF lens, Sigma AF lens, etc) - so I sent it back for calibration. After calibration, I retested all three adapters and they are actually all very accurate, but I also found out that the focus tolerance of 100/2.8, 180/2.8 and 280/4 are different (which is sensible to me), and Optix v5 now works perfectly (after some focus calibration as one of its functionalities) on the 100/2.8! Very accurate!!! The other two are retested on 180/2.8 and 280/4 and they are identical and very accurate on them!!! The first two adapters do have some "play" when the lenses are mounted to the body, but the Optix v5 one is dead on!!! Absolutely no play on all three lenses....to be continued.

....Then for my 280/4APO, I just thought I might want a more precision adapter, so I have bought a Fotodiox Pro adapter with AF-confirm chip. Then when I first time tried to moun it on my 280/4, the chip fell off! And then I tested it on all three lenses and got the blurrest image at infinity than all Happypagehk ones. It also had some play (though slightly less than my first 2 Happypagehk ones) on my 5D.
Cheers

I got a Leitax Leica-R / Canon EOS adapter and like it alot. Very secure. If I was using a heavy lens, it is the only adapter I'd consider. Here are a couple pix for a forthcoming review:

There are some more pictures in the adapter section of the Leica R pages, click here. I hope to have a full Leitax review published later this weekend (need to write it!)
